Corum Admiral Cup Legend 42
Tribute to a legend
The new red gold or steel Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 interpreted in two-tone versions is adorned with the same metallic blue color that graced its first modern version in 1983. This tribute to the historical model will be issued in a strictly limited 400-piece limited edition.
When the Admiral’s Cup was first released in 1960, it immediately established itself as one of the first perfectly water-resistant shaped sports watches. 23 years later, when its design was reinterpreted through adopting its current identity codes – 12 nautical pennants from the maritime international code of signals serving as hour-markers, along with a twelve-sided case – it became a truly phenomenal success. In homage to this model that has come to symbolize the House, Corum now presents a limited series reflecting the vintage “gunmetal blue”: the Admiral’s Cup Legend 42.
The Admiral’s Cup collection is composed of several distinct worlds: the sturdy and sophisticated Seafender line designed for adventurers: the sporty yet distinguished Challenger line suitable for wear on all occasions; and finally, the Legend line introduced in 2011 and which flirts with the frontiers of classic elegance in a subtly refined and gentle manner. While the new variations feature a more modest size, more curving lugs and softer angles, they maintain the same unique identity codes of the Admiral’s Cup. All of which ensures that these new classics imbued with a casual spirit proclaim their sporting origins in a subtle yet effective manner.
Classic elegance
The case and the outer bracelet links are decked out in a metallic blue color achieved by a PVD Physical Vapor Deposition) treatment. This color that was all the rage in the 1980s also adorns the lugs, the crown guard and the dial. The latter exudes a aura of distinctive elegance with its vertical guilloché finish and its stylized nautical pennants appearing around the inner bezel ring, The bezel and the central links are made of 18K red gold or polished steel, thus endowing both two-tone versions with a beautifully balanced aesthetic appeal.
Beating to the rhythm of Caliber CO 395 – a mechanical self-winding movement – the Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 displays the hours, minutes and small seconds, along with a date window at 3 o’clock. It has a 42-hour power reserve and features an oscillating weight engraved with the Corum logo and visible through a transparent exhibition case-back. This exceptional model is issued in a 400-piece limited edition.
Corum Admiral Cup Legend 42 Chrono
When elegance shows its sporting side
What makes the Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 Chrono so exceptional’ An historical heritage, a pure design and, for the first time in this Legend line, a more classical aspiration expressed through a COSC-certified chronograph movement. This Legend chronograph reflects a number of the signature codes of the original Admiral’s Cup, united in an harmonious blend of sportiness and elegance.
Throughout the 20th century, the democratization of sport constantly generated new timepieces: from diver’s watches to pilot’s watches, the watch industry developed models that were ever more advanced in terms of both their functions and their technologies. Nonetheless, the Admiral’s Cup has always radiated a distinctive aura. Since its creation in 1960, it has been the ultimate Corum sports watch. For over half a century, it has thereby embodied the brand’s tribute to the maritime world and to sailors.
In 2011, the legendary collection witnessed the birth of the more classic Legend line in the form of an understated and elegant automatic watch that nonetheless retained the distinctive Admiral’s Cup features. This year, Corum is enriching this lien with the Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 Chrono, equipped with a COSC-certified chronograph movement, Caliber CO983. This movement driving the hour, minute, small seconds, date and chronograph functions beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and boasts a 42-hour power reserve.
A pure design
The new model remains loyal to the collection’s legendary twelve-sided bezel, but the latter features the softest lines in the entire Legend line, reflected in the slender, streamlined chronograph pushers. The elegant 42 mm case is fitted with a screw-in transparent sapphire caseback providing an admirable view of the mechanism within. Available in steel, two-tone steel/gold or 18-carat red gold versions, the watch comes in a range of 11 references. The classic and distinctly horological nature of these timepieces is revealed by the vertical guilloché motif on the steel and steel/gold models, and the barleycorn guilloché pattern on the 18K red gold models. The understated dial colors, particularly the shade of blue inspired by the original Admiral’s Cup model, beautifully match the flowing lines of the case. The three chronograph counters are harmoniously arranged and readable at a glance. 11 hour-markers enable accurate reading of the hours and minutes, while the figure 60 appears in the 12 o’clock position.
The Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 Chrono is available with a crocodile leather strap equipped with a pin buckle for the gold models and a folding clasp for the steel/gold and steel models. The steel and steel/gold models are also available on a matching metal bracelet.
